BEIRUT, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), An Israeli military force advanced on Sunday into the Yarmouk Basin region in the western Daraa countryside, coinciding with establishing temporary military checkpoints in two locations in the Quneitra Governorate, in the latest Israeli field movements witnessed by the border regions in southern Syria.
Local sources reported the incursion of an Israeli force consisting of seven military vehicles into the Yarmouk Basin region, where four vehicles positioned themselves on the Saisoun-Jamlah road, while three vehicles penetrated into the village of Jamlah for a short period, before withdrawing through Wadi al-Raqqad accompanied by an infantry force.
In Quneitra, local sources reported that Israeli occupation forces established on Saturday night a temporary checkpoint consisting of three military vehicles on the Ain al-Abd-Al-Asbah road south of the governorate.
Also, Sijill Center, specialized in monitoring and documenting Israeli attacks in Syria, reported the establishment of a temporary military checkpoint Saturday evening on the Jabata al-Khashab-Ofania road, pointing out that Israeli forces stopped passersby and subjected them to searches.
These movements coincided with the continuation of the Israeli escalation in southern Syria, which includes ground incursions, establishing checkpoints, raid, search, and arrests, alongside carrying out raids and shootings in various areas.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry had condemned on Saturday the Israeli targeting of a civilian car on the Mazraat Beit Jann road in Beit Jann village in the western Damascus countryside, and held Israel responsible for the repercussions of what it described as repeated attacks that increase tension and instability in the region.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry called on the international community and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities and work to stop Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty.
On the other hand, the Israeli occupation army announced that its forces opened fire in southern Syria at a person claiming he “posed a direct threat” to Israeli forces, while the Israeli Army Radio quoted a source as claiming that the targeted person was planning to detonate an explosive device at Israeli forces.
Al-Shaibani: Syria does not trust Israel
The field developments come at a time when Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani said that contacts with Israel were severed following the Israeli attack on Abu al-Duhur Air Base on 18 August, but he expected the resumption of talks regarding a security agreement soon.
Al-Shaibani said, in statements published by Reuters on Sunday, that Syria “does not trust Israel currently,” adding that Israel tried to maintain its security “with brute force” and did not succeed anywhere.
Regions in southern Syria witness almost daily Israeli military incursions and movements since late 2024, when Israel announced the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, and expanded its deployment inside the buffer zone and other Syrian sites.
The new Israeli deployment included control over positions in the buffer zone and the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, in addition to the occupation of most of the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967.
