JEDDAH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said that Israel’s inclusion on the UN blacklist of parties accused of committing conflict-related sexual violence marks a “victory for Palestinian victims” and should lead to international prosecution and accountability.
In a statement on Sunday, the OIC welcomed the annual report of UN Secretary-General António Guterres on conflict-related sexual violence, saying it included Israeli authorities and institutions among parties suspected of patterns of sexual violence based on documented information, testimonies and evidence verified through UN mechanisms.
The organization described the move as an important legal and humanitarian step toward justice, accountability and ending Israel’s long-standing impunity.
It said the report represents a significant international legal and political document condemning systematic Israeli violations and crimes against Palestinian detainees and civilians.
The OIC added that the findings require legal action, alongside accountability for war crimes and genocide committed in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The organization renewed its call for the international community to take firm measures to stop Israel’s ongoing violations, hold those responsible accountable under international law and provide international protection for Palestinians.
The development comes amid UN and rights reports documenting cases of sexual violence, including rape, harassment and abuse of Palestinian detainees in Israeli detention centers, particularly Sde Teiman among other facilities.
Israeli media reported that Israel’s inclusion on the blacklist came despite efforts to block the move. Israel’s UN envoy Danny Danon later announced a freeze in relations with Guterres over the decision.
