Israeli strike on Lebanon kills five people

BEIRUT, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), At least five people were martyred in an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon on Saturday morning, despite a renewed ceasefire announced the previous day between Hezbollah and Israel.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that those five victims were killed in an Israeli strike in the town of Arabsalim in the south earlier today, noting that Israeli aircraft carried out a series of raids on the Nabatieh district throughout the night and into Saturday morning.

NNA added that other strikes destroyed residential buildings and homes, amid Israeli artillery shelling targeting Nabatieh City and its outskirts before dawn.

According to Al Jazeera satellite channel, the Israeli occupation army launched four strikes on Nabatieh City and the nearby town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, in addition to more than 20 air raids across southern Lebanon.

This latest escalation follows a bloody day on Friday, when the Israeli army carried out more than 106 attacks on Lebanon, killing at least 47 people and injuring 97 others.

The escalation also comes despite Friday’s announcement of a renewed ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel that took effect at 4:00 p.m. local time.

In a related context, Hezbollah secretary-general Naim Qassem has warned that Lebanon is going through the “most dangerous phase in its modern history,” affirming that there is a plan aimed at ending the Lebanese resistance and removing it entirely from the Lebanese scene.

In a speech delivered on Friday, Qassem said that there were attempts to provoke discord between the Lebanese army and the resistance, but the awareness of the military institution and its leadership prevented that from happening.

He expressed his belief that the Israeli occupation army would ultimately leave every inch of the Lebanese land, noting that Hezbollah managed recently to upgrade its military capabilities to defend its people and land.
